The preparation involves the following steps:
  1. Rinse and soak basmati rice for 30 minutes. Cook it until 80% done and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, sauté onions until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
  3. Add tomatoes, yogurt, and biryani spices. Cook until oil separates.
  4. Mix in chopped vegetables and cook until slightly tender.
  5. In a large pot, layer rice and the cooked vegetable mixture alternately. Top with saffron milk and herbs.
  6. Cover and cook on low heat (dum) for 15-20 minutes until flavors meld together.
